'All Things Equal' is an immersive installation exploring ideas of balance, equilibrium and interconnectedness.  Created as a response to the 'Manifesto for Gender Equality in Music'  by Brighter Sound, The piece premiered in Manchester, U.K on International Woman's Day.   Collaborating with “genre-splicing genius of British electronic music” Loraine James, and award-winning Salford poet Princess Arinola Adegbite, Rebecca Artistic Directed the volumetric experience.

“The creation of the installation, and the process of creating it, represents a shift in equilibrium.  The whole piece pivots around ideas of addressing a rebalance.   I was really interested to explore these ideas of parity, and how we reach that point of change.  There is an acute sense of tension and harmony which is felt throughout the installation, from beautifully transcendent moments of calm and reflection, to chaotic and sometimes disorientating mechanical swells, which stride through the full length of the space. I think the piece tries to jostle with the journey of re-balancing and making things equal."

In the process of creating the work, Rebecca shared skills and knowledge with four female identifying artists interested in exploring a shift in their work towards digital practice. The result is a beautiful and otherworldly experience that speaks to the importance of change and recognition, and supports the development of a new generation of creative women working in tech.

“I really hope that we can inspire a new wave of female and non-binary artists to feel confident in using technology to express their creative ambitions and to understand that their potential should never be limited.” - Rebecca Smith

“It’s been fascinating to learn about the project as a whole, from how Rebecca approached the brief in the first place and experimenting with ideas in her studio, to seeing the concepts brought to life at the tech day at Adlib. We normally only see the end result of other people’s artistic process, so it’s been enlightening to see how things develop and change along the way. I’m very excited about seeing it all come together – and hoping I can get started on my own light-based projects very soon too!”
