WORK

Circa is an immersive light and sound installation created in collaboration with six Young Producers from Doncaster. Taking its name from the Latin word for “around” or “about,” Circa draws on the timeless symbolism of the circle - Embodying unity, inclusivity, and collective belonging. It invites each viewer to step inside and become part of a shared experience that highlights how individual contributions build a greater whole.

The installation used a series of moving head lights, carefully programmed to create fluid patterns of light that danced across the space. Layers of immersive sound filled the vast interior of Warmsworth White Church, weaving together abstract textures and atmospheric echoes. Haze was introduced to the environment, catching the beams of light and turning them into visible lines that shaped the architecture itself - soft, shifting structures that breathed and moved with the piece.

As part of the Doncaster Festival of Light On Tour, the Young Producers gained hands-on experience in festival production, from managing budgets to understanding risk assessments. Their journey included workshops, a visit to the Tate Modern to see the Anthony McCall exhibition, and time at Rebecca’s studio in Welbeck, where they explored how digital tools and creative technology can be used to transform space.

Circa reimagined Warmsworth White Church for two nights in February, filling it with light and sound to create an environment of community connection. It stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the ways that immersive technology can deepen our sense of place, identity, and collective belonging.
