In Your Hands is an immersive audiovisual installation created for Clifton Park Museum in Rotherham, exploring the people, stories and memories held within the museum’s collection.

Drawing on archive material, including a collection of early 20th-century glass lantern slides, the work reimagines fragments of Rotherham’s past through projection, sound and light. Historic images are taken out of the archive and transformed into a shifting, layered environment, creating new connections between people, place and memory.

Installed within the museum’s octagonal gallery, projections move across multiple layers of suspended translucent gauze, allowing images to overlap, disappear and re-emerge as audiences move through the space. A spatial soundscape adds another layer to the installation, creating an intimate experience that feels less like looking at an archive and more like stepping inside it.

The project extends into the Curator’s Desk, where projection and recorded voices create a more direct encounter with the museum’s collection. Visitors can use a telephone to dial and hear different stories, connecting individual voices with the objects, images and histories around them.

In Your Hands uses contemporary audiovisual technology to explore how a museum collection can be experienced differently - not as something fixed in the past, but as material that can be revisited, reinterpreted and brought into the present.
