WORK
In celebration of Pride Month 2021, Urban Projections collaborated with Thomas Wolski to create a series of twelve 30-second idents for ITV, aired daily throughout July.
Each ident combines Wolski’s detailed monochrome illustrations with colour, light and motion, using digital projection techniques to animate and extend the drawings. LGBTQ+ iconography is woven through the series, building a visual language that shifts across the set of films while holding a consistent tone.
The work was filmed over two days in Manchester, blending controlled studio setups with location-based shooting. This approach allowed the visuals to retain a sense of texture and physicality, while working within the constraints of broadcast production.
Across the series, the idents function as short, self-contained pieces, each exploring variation in rhythm, composition and colour. Broadcast nationally, the project brought this work into a daily viewing context, reaching a wide audience through a familiar format.
The collaboration translates Urban Projections’ spatial and light-based practice into a screen-based setting, adapting projection techniques for television while maintaining a focus on image, atmosphere and identity.
