WORK
Proto-Type is a collective of young artists exploring the relationship between art and technology. Based at the Urban Projections studio and mentored by Rebecca Smith, the group meets regularly as part of an ongoing development programme, creating space to experiment, collaborate and build confidence in practice.
Developed in partnership with Inspire Youth Arts, Proto-Type has grown over several years into a platform for emerging artists working across digital and spatial media. Sessions focus on hands-on making, with participants exploring projection mapping, interactive installation and other forms of new media.
The programme is structured around shared learning and co-creation, with participants contributing to projects, testing ideas and developing work in a supportive environment. Alongside technical skills, there is a focus on process, collaboration and understanding how creative work operates in real-world contexts.
Many of the artists involved have gone on to take up freelance opportunities, further training and placements, using the experience and material developed through Proto-Type as a starting point.
Proto-Type centres access and continuity, offering a space where young artists can develop their practice over time, supported by peer learning, mentoring and ongoing collaboration.
