Stylus is an adventure between modern mural painter Pete Barber and digital artist, Rebecca Smith. It explores progressive forms of combining projection mapping with hand crafted image.
In a live performance, both elements evolve and interact, to create a canvas of movement, light and paint. Dubbed the ‘Living Mural’, the pairs unconventional approach has led to critical acclaim from both the street and digital art communities.

WHAT IS A PROJECTION MURAL?
A Projection Mural takes a hand painted image, and adds specially placed projection and light onto its features. The painting is digitally mapped with projection and can be controlled, effected and distorted live. With thoughtful content creation, mesmerising effects can be achieved, bringing the image to life and playfully warping the viewers perception of what is real and what is painted.
HOW ARE THEY CREATED?
Over a number of years, Rebecca & Peter have developed the workflow of creating a projection mural into a live performance, where both elements seamlessly intertwine. The performative nature of the technique allows for both the painted and projected elements to be responsive to the environment and ambience. The technique has been used to create everything from a short two hour performance, to a permanent installation wall.
